Treasury Thursday Tropical Breeze

Hi All!

I know everyone is ready for a Tropical Breeze especially those of you in the frosty time zones. Here in the desert of Arizona we have been hit with extremely cold temperatures for us (20 degrees). No, we're not prepared for it.

So I'm happy to bring you this lively collection entitled , "Tropical Breeze" by Nancy Gobee of NancysWorkshop.

Doesn't this make you reminisce for a chair on the beach with the breeze coming in from the ocean. Makes me miss the Bahamas and the breeze coming off the ocean on the beaches in Senegal, in West Africa. What memories does this collection bring to mind for you? Please share in the comments section. As always all pictures are clickable for more info and to purchase.

UPDATE Shopinterest

Hi All!

I previous posted about Shopinterest here http://wirequeen.blogspot.com/2012/07/pinterest-tools-shopinterestco-beta.html. I thought this was the greatest thing since popcorn, to be able to turn your boards into mini shopping carts.

Signup to receive an invite.

Sad to say this is one of those ventures that didn't get traction. There is nothing displaying but the name when you search for it. Based on the number of views, interest in the application was not the problem. My personal opinion is that the agreement between Etsy and Pinterest to track Etsy items spelled the death knell for Shopinterest.com

What are your thoughts? Were you looking forward to Shopinterest.com going live? Looking forward to your comments.

1001 Journals Project Scottsdale

Hi All!

My local library in Scottsdale in conjunction with the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art hosted and exhibition called the 1001 Journals Project. The journals were blank pages and the public was invited to fill in whatever they wanted.  The idea behind 1001 Journals is similar to your 1000 Journals project —whose aim was get sketchbooks into the hands of artists, who then either fill the journals themselves or pass them along to others to complete. Brian Singer then transitioned this into the 1001 project to get journals in to the hands of everyday people.

Hospitals were the first to come on board putting the journals into the hands of kids and teenagers. Cultural centers and museums picked up the idea and offered them to the public. Scottsdale came on board and added workshops with theirs to teach the public different art techniques.  Their project was titled the 100 Journal project. My daughter and I attended several of the work shops and the skill levels of the instructors was very high.

100 journals were put out on tables, seating areas and stand high tables. Pencils, colored pencils paints and markers were put out all around the room so the public could get creative. And creative the were.
Reading through the journals was a wonderful experience in humanity. I remember one entry where a woman with kids stated she was in an abusive relationship  and didn't have a way out. The prayers, information, and offers of help to this woman were heartwarming. Folks did art work from drawing of aliens to Matisse type paintings , poems , memes, musings and all points in between. The staff had papered the walls with entries from the journals. One small section had political statements. A staffer told me Republicans and Democrats would come in and each would complain that the comments were too liberal  or too conservative. Smile

The bulbs are fiber yarn and are huge. The instructor had on a bracelet made of fiber balls. I asked her if it was solid or hollow. She stated it was solid and we laughed about her being compulsive because each fiber "bead" would have required many hours of winding.

Overview of the gallery

One of the walls of the Gallery covered with journal pages.

The page was produced at a workshop

A reception was held after the last workshop to close out the project. the public was invited. The library allowed those who attended the reception and wanted to take a journal home to do so.
The first two photos are courtesy of the Scottsdale Library. If you would like more info regarding the journal project you can contact the library here ; contact Scottsdale Room, Scottsdale Civic Center Library, Scottsdale, AZ 85251, phone 480-312-7323

Scottsdale Arizona is known for its emphasis on the arts. The City pours a lot of money into the arts from the Peter Solis "Bridge" to the murder mystery my daughter participated in last night. The 100 journals project was one of their best efforts.

If you have enjoyed projects like this in your city or what to share what your thoughts on the project leave a message.

Thanks,
Michelle

Featured Artist: Syeda Umar

Hi All

Today's featured artist is Syeda B. Umar, my youngest child. Syeda has show an eye for design since she started walking. Her first canvases were my bedroom wall and window seal. Syeda took some aqua colored beads put shea butter on the back of them and made a mosaic on my wall. I showed her creation to a number of local and national artists in Detroit. To a one, they all told me that she had a gift and to not let public school take that away from her. Me being me, I left the mosaic up until the shea butter finally melted and most of the beads had fallen to the floor. Smile

We have been blessed to have excellent art teachers who did not try to pigeonhole Syeda. Her teachers taught her new techniques and strives to enhance her natural talent. She has attended three sessions at the Scottsdale Artist School. One of the most prestigious schools in the country.

Syeda won her first artist competition at age 9. She received a certificate and a check for $50.00. According to her arts teacher her style is already being copied. We have even had her work stolen. Syeda's interests range from mixed media to painting, writing fiction and plays to songwriting.

Syeda will enter high school this fall and I'm looking forward to seeing how her work will evolve. As always you can make purchases  at my etsy shop by clicking on shop or the title.

Make the best of the new week. enjoy

Challenged by thebohemiangypsy Challenge Met

I was challenged by the bohemian gypsy to take these bits and pieces and make art. I don't think my finished product was what she had in mind. She was expecting jewelry. Isn't that why they call it art?

I have never taken a painting class or tried to paint.  After the Bohemian gypsy challenged me I dreamed this piece.
The piece is titled Calm/Chaos. What would you have done with the pieces?

As always click on the title to purchases

My Birthday presents from Baby Girl 2011

My girls know that I prefer that they make my presents. There is nothing quite like knowing someone thought enough of you to take the time to think out and make something for you. I don't care what it is as long as they make it. Baby Girl painted the the picture. Her image of me.

The Art of Baby Girl

My youngest daughter is an extremely talented artist. I am in awe of her. She can take any medium and create ART, it doesn't make whether its painting or picking up some leaves and twigs and discarded paper she can create something wonderful from it. You will stand there scratching your head asking,"How in the world did you thing to do that." No, this is not a proud Mommy talking (although I am). I am speaking as an artist and observer.

Baby Girl won her first art competition at 10. Her first art piece I can remember she was between three and five years old. She took Shea butter and put it on the one side of some new jade beads flat sided and and did a Mosaic on my bedroom wall. I had nationally recognized artists look at her Mosaic. Each stated she was a natural talent and to please not let public school take that away from her. The Creator heard their requests because we have been blessed to have art teachers who encouraged her and did not try and make her conform to some rigid style of learning. She has completed three one week sessions at the Scottsdale School of Art and the teachers there taught her new techniques without hampering her creativity.

I try and expose her to as many different styles and artists as possible and keep her art supplies well stocked. I think the most important lesson I want her to learn is that it is a business and that you can make a living doing what you love. The Creator did not put us here to be miserable. To quote Baby Girl, "Choose Happy Mommy".

How are you finding Your Happy?

Artist Tinyan Chan

We went to the Scottsdale Artwalk last night. We "discovered" the paintings of chinese artist Tinyan Chan . His paintings were amazing in their detail of Hong Kong and the countryside of China.

In his bio His family left China and moved to a small village in Africa. He states" The simple village life he experienced gave him a sense of tranquility that has permanently influenced his art."

His work was so awesome Baby Girl could not stop commenting on it she was so moved. (Herself a rising artist). Pictures on the web do not do his work justice. You have to see this Mr Chan's work in person to be able to truly appreciate it.

He now lives and creates in Canada. The title is a link to another gallery on the web that has his work since I never received an email with pictures from the local gallery.
