Out With 2010 and in with 2011

The year 2011 has been a trying year for everyone. The earth seems to be cleaning itself and folks need to clean up their lives and businesses. I think everyone is ready for 2011. Take this weekend to do a Vision board and/or to jot down what you want to accomplish in 2011. Keep this in front of you so you can stay focused and energized to fulfil your goals. Remember you are responsible for your destiny, so make it count.

We've got three Bowl games coming up in Scottsdale. I will be uploading photos and info this weekend so check back and like me on facebook.

May All your Need, Wants and Dreams be fulfilled in the coming year.

Peace to you all. See you in 2011 with surprises for the upcoming year.

Kwanzaa Celebration

We attended a Kwanzaa celebration hosted by Delta Sigma Theta sorority (No, I'm not  Delta). at a local church.  The first day of Kwanzaa is Umoja. Unfortunately here in the Valley this and one other celebration were both on the same day at the same time . I have not been able to find any other celebrations. I am accustomed to taking my children to a different celebration each night. The fail safe is always the Shrine of the Black Madonna church which has an event for all seven days and culminates on New Years Day. This is such a beautiful way to bring in the New Year as a community.

For 2011 I will organize a day and ask other groups to take a day to keep the spirit of community going. Kwanzaa is such a beautiful way to celebrate community. The community coming together aspect of it is why its been picked up by so many other cultures and countries.

May you have a Blessed week as we head into the New Year.

Are Ready For the Big Day?

Are you ready for the big day?

Checklist:

Gifts wrapped.

Extra stocking stuffers for those unexpected guests. (You know there are always some adult and kids)

Groceries all purchased. (Check those spices jars/cans to make sure there's actually enough spice in them to do cooking)

House decorated or at least smelling good. Put out scented candles and light so they scent the house. I favor apple pie. Smile

Turkey or centerpiece meat seasoned and ready to cook.

Pies cakes and other assorted desserts cooked or ready to pop in the oven. Those who are assigned to bringing a dish have checked in that they'll be there.

As much as can be prepped has been done.

Tonight you will do everything and then pop the turkey in the oven.

Draw a hot scented bath. Lock the door light a candle.  Put on your favorite music and just soak for a half hour.
You have the right to enjoy the holiday too. Tommorrow will be a long day so center yourself so that no one can move you from your center. NO matter who she is.SMILE

To all my friends who celebrate the season remember the real reason for it and enjoy.

Peace

Kwanzaa 2010 Do you Celebrate?

Do you celebrate Kwanzaa? If so, how do you celebrate it?

Do you have a gathering. in your home?

Do to a larger gathering like at a hall or house of worship?

Do you have it catered or is it potluck (everyone brings a dish)?

Do you make gifts for each other or do you purchase handmade?

Or, do you just ignore it.

I'd really like to know since kwanzaa is celebrated worldwide.  Leave a comment answering the above

question. Please state the country you live in.

As always you can click on the title to make your handmade purchases.

I'm looking forward to your replies.

We went to see the Movie "The Tourist"

We just got  back from seeing Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in "The Tourist". The critics here were not kind to the movie. The way the comment's were written you got the impression they were not Jolie fans, too bad. The movie is quite good and keeps you guessing until the end. Perhaps they didn't figure out the ending and were pissed. LOL

All in all,  it was a nice quick diversion for a dreary Tuesday.

Hope all you shopping is done, the gifts wrapped, and the food ready to be cooked.

Paolo Soleri Bridge Dedication Saturday

I am taking my daughter to the dedication of the Paolo Soleri Bridge here in Scottsdale on Saturday, December 11, 2010.  The time is 11 to 2. there will be lectures and talks with Soleri himself. I want her to make history as one of the first people to walk across the bridge. Paolo Soleri is a visionary famous for his Soleri cast bells and sculptures and Arcosanti his planned community. If you come to this area you must visit Arcosanti (click on the title to visit the site.)

My daughter and I went when we first moved to Arizona. the vision of Soleri is absolutely awe inspiring. The view from Arcosanti is breathtaking. My daughter and I watched a hawk chase a smaller bird for five minutes, it was awesome watching them swooping and diving in a life and death chase. The smaller bird lived for another day.

If you in the area you must attend this event and go to Arcosanti itself.

I will post pictures Sunday.

Lapis Lazuli The Stone of Royalty

Since ancient times Lapis Lazuli has been cherished and valued. Royalty alone was allowed to wear lapis thoughout the Mesopotamian  region and carnelian (the other Royalty stone). Lapis was more highly valued than gold. For a non-royal to be caught wearing either stone was dangerous to your life.

The two pieces I created above were inspired by an exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts from the Royal House Of Ur. My eldest and walked through the exhibit drooling. The Queens jewelry was all lapis lazuli and carnelian set in 22 karat gold. Per the exhibit her crown was so heavy that she had to wear a wig under it to support the weight. Simply Awesome.

Lapis is believed to be a stone of awareness. The Egyptians buried their dead with a lapis scarab. Ancient Buddhist believed the stone brought peace of mind to its wearer. Present day lapis is used to enhance mediation and increase physic ability. Make of that what you will.

I have a stone of lapis with no matrix, just beautiful blue. My supplier informed me that Americans like lapis with pyrite, but that Europeans like it with no pyrite. I will have to make some pieces with this beautiful stone get the pictures uploaded.

Zapped by Computer Virus Spent Weekend Putting in my 5 hrs or $5.00

Hi All the computer Virus was worse than expected. My poor computer was wait listed to be repaired, so a lot of folks have been zapped this holiday season. I hope to have it today. My blogging everyday this month went out the window will try for everyday in January.

I spent Friday and Saturday at an expo (Phoenix Urban Expo) fundraising for the Cultural Cup Food Bank in Phoenix. A small food bank at Osborn and 7th Street that services the immediate area.

There is nothing I can think of during this time of year than to stand at the door and tell a family that you have run out of food. So please make a donation, even if its only $5.00. They can do amazing things with 5 bucks.

So I'm well over my five $5.00 /5 hours for the month. Now is the time to help others, if you do it no other time of the year, do it now. Where ever you are, no matter what you're going through, go help someone else. Helping others will allow you to step back from your problems, will give you a new outlook on your problems. After you help someone else it allows you to look at your situation with fresh eyes. You will be surprised at how you will be stronger to handle your situation after helping another. Your spirit and heart will be lighter.

The wirequeen is stepping off her soapbox. :) Click on the title to make a donation and go out and find some small nonprofit working in the community that is doing good work. Donate some time, you be the one receiving the benefits.

Peace.

Hi All

Have you got that $5.00 donation paid already or decided what nonprofit you're going to donate 5 hours to. Can't do a five hour block. No problem, Take an hour a week and go hold a baby in the hospital; talk to a senior in the hospital who may not have family nearby. Yay! I Made the November Blog a day Challenge. Then My computer got Sick

Yes!!!! I completed the November 30 day blog every day challenge and then I got my computer high jacked by a nasty virus that pretends to be Microsoft Think Pad. This virus won't let you connect to the Internet unless you pay them a fee of $69.00. This is the time of year this really becomes back. Please be careful. I'm at the library which my computer is being worked on.

That's why this is so late in posting. So please be careful of what you open this time of year even if its from a friend. Mine came from a friend saying she had gotten and apologizing if you received a vulgar email.

Its that time of the Year. So support small business and click on the link to for your handmade gifting creations.

Be blessed.
