Movie Premier: MaryMarcyMayMarlene

I attended the Premier of this movie last night not sure what to expect. The basic story is told through flashbacks which really worked here.

The lead character is a young girl who you are not quite sure why she's where she is. You're left wondering also until the flashbacks start. The plot surprisingly is a about a cult and how you people are sucked in to these things. Before you start sprouting off that this couldn't happen to my kid, think again. This movie is like a road map for parents on how easily your kids can get swept in
The subject matter is timely considering law enforcements recent announcements on how they are changing the way they are finally reviewing child prostitute and similar crimes where the victim was being prosecuted.

When reunited with her family the kid has shall we say some serious adjustment problems. She is unable to share what she has experienced.

Parents go see this movie and them break it up to explain to your kids how easily such things can happen. The movie provides many talking points to start.

If this review is somewhat nebulous its because I want you to go see it and then share with your kids this very relevant and complex subject.

Let me know what you think.

Attended the premier of "The Beaver" with Mel Gibson and Jody Foster

Last night we attended the premier of the "The Beaver" At Scottsdale Fashion Square.  Mel Gibson and Jody Foster starred with Jody Foster directing. The subject matter clinical depression and mental illness is hard to  convey on the big screen without losing your audience. This film nailed it showing both how the depressed person unravels and the effects it has on those around them. More importantly it showed the various forms depression can take based on different scenarios. A very hard subject matter to covey losing without your audience. Jody Foster nailed it. She kept the pace moving not allowing you time to withdraw or put up protective shields for what might be around the next corner.

I've been a Mel Gibson fan since his Mad Max days so its good to see him back  in the saddle. He nailed the main character playing a middle aged man who is severely depressed and has done the "traditional treatments" without success. He finds his own coping mechanism hence the title.

One of the side families had a kid die from a drug overdose and no one was dealing with their emotions and the impact this had on their lives. They were all sweeping it under the rug and acting as if everything was just peachy. Yet peaches will rotten if not properly cared for, so it is with humans and their psyche. Their not talking about the death was manifesting in crippling ways to the family.

People in the audience laughed and cried at difference scenes some very funny which you would not have expected given the subject matter. Even a gory scene was dealt with in a way to give full impact without slapping you in the face with blood and gore.

I don't want to give out to many details because you have to see it presented in the context of the entire film, but The Beaver is well worth the price of admission. I will be going back a second time and paying to see what I missed from the first viewing. The film was that deep and that good.

Premier of the Movie "Beastly"

We attended premier of the movie "Beastly". A modern day (emphasis on modern) day version of Beauty and the Beast. This new version was surprising good. The movie didn't sugar coat how our society has elevated the cult of looks and money to demigod status. You can open your mouth and say the stupidest things and it doesn't matter as long as you have looks and money. Those same things that helped to bring down so many other cultures and societies in the past.

What is interesting is to juxtapose this against the events that are taking place around the world as people in other countries are dying to emulate America and what they think is American. We on the other hand are worshiping at the feet of whatever the current  icon is be it Lady GAGA or a Justine Bieber. Just as long as they have looks and money it doesn't matter what they say or do we follow like lemmings. I'm not going to give away the movie but in one seen this is brilliantly depicted.

They should win an award for the Beast's makeup. Loved it.

Go see the movie and have an enjoyable evening.

Night All.

Movie Mania The Box

I took my dd to see the Box (This was not the first choice, but that movie had already started.) to celebrate a great report card. Talk about a moral delima! The premise is that if you press the button someone somewhere will die. Thus I was po'd because they were replaying the Adam and Eve bit a little to heavy, by only showing women hitting the button. The movie was downright creepy and predictable because you knew the mothers were going to sacrifice themselve for their children. The Daddys were only too willing to do the deed to "save" the children.

Michael Jackson Movie Premier

I attended the Michael Jackson Movie Premier. Go See it. No matter where you stand on many public issues in his life, the fact remains Michael Jackson was very much the Humanitarian, that comes out in the movie. Muhammad Ali and his wife were there. Please say a pray for him. Parkinson is really taking a toll on him.

I had to drag my daughter to the movie but she loved it. I had to explain some things that came from songs well before her time.(She's eleven).
