Custom Wire Wrapped Jewelry

Hi All

These are some of my custom pieces that have gone to good homes. When I started using the Internet I used picturetrail.com to host my photos and info. Did not work well for sales. Smile.

I later set up a site on Etsy.com in 2008 along with some other sites because they were easy to use. This after I did not have success with a couple of web designers. Now I'm in the process of setting up my own site. I'll announce it here when its up.

I have always searched for unique and unusual gemstones. I now have a collection dating back some twenty years. I wish I had kept more pieces like the turquoise from the Sleeping Beauty Mine. You are hard pressed to find good quality pieces without matrix.

I enjoy doing custom work and wish I had taken pictures throughout my career. I didn't. I am a prolific designer. I juried into Kindred Souls women's artist cooperative in Detroit. (Thanks to Pat Kobore who dragged me to the interview and saw the artist in me when I didn't. I was just making a living to provide for us.) Kindred Souls taught me how to do production work as an artist. I would amaze my eldest by laying my work out and making a hundred pair of earrings in an hour. I used to have people come up to me at a show and pose. They would just stand there waiting on me to compliment them on my piece they were wearing. So I had to start taking pictures.

Then I picked up wire work and it was must easier to remember my pieces. The wire work takes longer and the nature of the wire keeps it from looking the same all the time. This happens  even if I'm doing a design I've done for a long time (ie., my cowrie shell pieces).

Share your birthstone or favorite stone. If sharing your favorite gemstone , please give any information you have on it. Ex. country of origin, purported properties and color of the stone.

Thanks,

Michelle

I love making Rings.

I love making rings. The problem is deciding what size to make it in when you have one of a kind items and cannot duplicate the gemstone.  Here are some examples:

Enjoy your day!

Ocean Jasper Earrings and Necklace Set

This is an Ocean Jasper Set I handmade. The coils and earwires are Sterling Silver. I handcrafted the clasp. My photography does not due these beads justice. They are an orby matrix of white, light and dark gray.
The necklace is 22 inches long and the Center Fancy Jasper bead is 1 1/4 inches across. The earrings are 2 inches from the top of the earwires.
Ocean Jasper is a relatively new find. Madagascar was reclaiming the land at its shoreline when it was discovered. The Tsunami that claimed so many lives several years ago closed many if the sites. I haven't any info as to whether they have been reopened. This is stock I have had since the early 2000's. They are available on Artfire here http://bit.ly/baqPjT

Destash Jewelry Earrings

I started out making jewelery as a beader  many years ago. I moved to wire, but I have always made a lot of earrings. (Thank you ladies of Kindred Souls Women's Coop for teaching me how to do production work.) I would sit down and made a hundred pair of earring and freak my older daughter out. (Smile) I will be showing pictures of a bag of earrings I found that I had forgotten about. They are all on sterling silver or 14kt gold fill wire and ear hooks. They are old stone so they are of a quality you don't see often; orby and spotted ocean jasper, aquamarine, tigereye wave beads etc. Here's the first set.

Tigereye Wave Beads on Sterling Silver. These are a great everyday pair. The stone has been cut to create a wave effect in these l 1/2 inch stones. I once did a show at Cobo Hall Convention Center and the first three hours I sold 15 pr of these earrings. $20.00pr.

These little cuties are faceted black onyx on the left with pearls. Dotty Ocean Jasper Squares cut on a diagonal with pearls . Both pair are on Sterling silver wire and earhooks. Both one inch long. $20.00 per pair.
