I will be doing a giveaway for Mother's Day starting next week. Baby Girl's Second Track Meet

Baby girl ran in her second track meet. She came in last again, but improved her time. She had to use her nebulyzer before the race so I didn't want  her to run. She insisted and did not whine, make excuses or complain. I was really proud of her. I was cheering so loudly you would have thought she was setting a new track record. Smile.

I know its been a long time since my now 22 year old participated in sports but these are the quietest sports events I have ever been to. Her teammates weren't even cheering for each other until they saw me doing it. I had them cheering for the kids who were coming in last by asking how would you feel. They started helping me cheer for all the kids, especially the ones who came in last, didn't matter which team they were on we cheered them in. You could see the difference it made by the look of surprise on the kids faces.

I will be doing a giveaway for Mother's Day starting next week. I got my fan page and shop set up on facebook. Still a work in progress, You can see it here. http://on.fb.me/ghLTw6

Make it a great day.

Playing With Copper: Circle Coils

This is the last pair of the collection I created for the gentleman who wanted to gift his South American girlfriend with some copper earrings. He purchased two pair and said my work under priced.

I took the 18 gage wire I had coiled cut it to a certain length and filed the both ends. I then hand shaped the coils into circles, created a loop for the ear wire and attached it. This is thick wire so there was no need to wrap the loop.

As always you can click on the title for more information and to purchase.

AfricaPhillips100 His list of the largest African Ethnic Groups

I'm an Africanist. To Black Americans and others who visit my site, look and see if anyone reminds you of a family member, friend, relative or neighbor. When I'v gone to Africa I made a game of seeing what people in what country reminded me of someone in the US. . You'll be surprised at the number of people on the video who remind you of someone you know.

Special Order Copper Earrings

This is the last pair of the special order copper earrings I made for the gentleman to select from who was giving them to his girlfriend. he stated, I was selling to low. I appreciated that. Smile

These are 18 gage round copper wire. I coiled them, then spread the coil into the semi-circle shape. These are fun and lightweight for the thickness of the wire.

The last picture is of the totally round pair I made, so you can compare the two shapes.

They are $25.00 per pair.

I will start the artist and art organizations features back next week.

Make it a great day.

Paying With Copper Wire: Circlets

I have one more pair to post from the special order series I created for the gentleman to gift his girlfriend. I coiled 18 gage wire around a pencil. Cut and filed the ends and then flattened the coil to create the length. This is thick wire. I wanted the earrings to have holding power. I have had copper earrings made out of higher gage wire and they didn't always stand up to normal wear and tear.

Make it a great day.

Volunteering to Teaching Wirework at ASU

I volunteered for the Cultural Cup Food Bank at Arizona State University's College of Public Programs showing the kids how to do wire work. The folks here know how to put on a show it was one of the best I have every attended or participated in paid or unpaid. They just do a great job from start to finish. If you see something they're putting on make the effort and go.

I won a BIG candy bar by getting all the questions right on a domestic violence questionaire. Time to put an end to this foolishness.

Yes, I do sometimes go outside of Scottsdale. Smile.

Make it a great day.

Playing With Copper: Cowrie Shell Ear Spears

I love all things Cowrie Shell. One writer/researcher has stated,"Though out history the cowrie shell has been viewed as the "Divine Vulva" the ultimate symbol of womanhood. I guess that;s why in western African you had to provide so many cowries shells as a bride price. The cowrie was also used as the first money in this same area. Here in Scottsdale Arizona, I was surprised to see it used as embroidery on an ancient native American robe. I asked the lady wearing it how they came to have it. she smiled and stated, We traded with them for the shells."

I did the cowrie shells as my version of ear spears. I also do them in sterling silver. The copper is a round 18gage wire. Most ear wires are 24-28 gage. So if you want a pair and have tiny holes I can make them in a thinner wire.

Have a great day.

Playing with Copper and Volunteering in Phoenix

You'll know I did these copper earrings in a batch for a customer who wanted a selection to choose from. I posted a group picture and am posting these rest of them individually this weekend. The dear man said I was under pricing my work. Smile.

This is thick 18 gage wire (The smaller the number the thicker the wire.). You'll know my love affair with the cowrie shell (The symbol of the "Divine Vulva" was one writer/researcher on women's symbols put it.). You can't get anymore feminine that.

I did my volunteer bit last night for the Cultural Cup Food bank(http://culturalcup.com  make a donation please no matter the size.) at Arizona State University's College of Public Programs entitled," Action, Advocacy, Arts" . In a word "AWESOME" event. I will be adding pictures. I even had a caricature done. that I will be posting . I think I want to use it as the image on my facebook fanpage. So I'll get it posted and you can tell me what you think. I also fascinated by the art work that was on the wall as I came in, turns out the artists were women in prison who are part of sister Fatima Halim's prison project. I'm going to feature it as one of my Wednesday art organizations in April.

Yes, I do leave out of Scottsdale sometimes. Smile

Love Y'all have a great week end.

Going with the Flow Copper Earring

I was playing with some copper square wire and made these freehand. I made the first one and then laid the wire over that one to create the second earring. I don't use boards or draw out designs. (My version of drawing is stick fiqures.Smile.) I then work hardened the wire so it would retain its shape. This was part of a group of 6pr I madefor a gentleman who wanted come pure copper earrings for his girl friend. He said I was charging to little for my work. Smile
