I've been up since 5am (My usual time) the reading the paper and on the net renewing items on my selling sites. I let Baby Girl sleep in. I love the quiet at this time of morning.
We're going to an event called the Graduation, it's for Muslim women from all the different communities so we can come together and honor those graduating from High School and beyond. There is a tea first, recognition of the graduates and then we Party. The windows and doors are covered and the servers are all women. This allows the women who wear niquab (the face veil) and those who wear chador (the outfit where only the eyes are seen) to uncover and hangout.
I think most Americans would be surprised to learn that many single women and black American women don niqab and chador as a way to take their femininity back. Black American women have been so demonized and whoreified (I know not a real word but it best describes the way we have been portrayed around the world.). Current example being the remarks made by radio personality Don Imus.
Anyway, its a formal affair for women from all Islamic ethnic groups in the Valley to come together and meet each other. I have sent my daughter every year we have been in the Valley, but this is my first time going. She is really excited that she will be sharing this experience with Mommy.
Looking forward to a good time.
